Hello managers,

after having used and setup a bunch of Netra X1 machines we have
purchased our first SunFire 280R server. We have read the accompanying
documentation but nevertheless weren't able to access the machine yet.
We would like to use a PowerMac (MacOSX) with a KeySpan adaptor (RS
232) and kermit for the console. This setup works great for the Netras.

We have unplugged the patch cable from the Netras Lom A port and
plugged it into the serial adaptor (SuBD 25 pin) accompanying the
SunFire then connected this end to the Serial A port of the SunFire.
Then we switched the machine on as outlined in the documentation. The
fans do their business but nothing appears on the console.

        SunFire 280R (Serial A) | SuB D 25 pin <-------- path cable --------->
SuB D 9 pin | KeySpan adaptor <------- USB cable -------> PowerMac
(MacOSX)

As mentioned the following setup works for the Netra X1 machines.

        Netra X1 (LOM A) <-------- path cable ---------> SuB D 9 pin | KeySpan
adaptor <------- USB cable -------> PowerMac (MacOSX)

We then unplugged the patch cable from the SubD 25 pin connector and
plugged it into the serial port of the RSC card. We got a login: prompt
from the RSC card. But what do we do with that. What login is setup by
default. We tried root and no password without success. This is a
totally new machine.

Any hints for us SunFire newbies are greatly appreciated. Thanks in
advance!

Regards,

    Andreas
