The suggestions pointed to setting the following kernel parameters

set rlim_fd_cur = 1024
set rlim_fd_max = 2048

And looking at the following docs..
Solaris Tunable Parameters Reference Manual 816-0607 at docs.sun.com
This is in the Solaris 2 FAQ.

http://www.science.uva.nl/pub/solaris/solaris2/Q3.46.html
3.46) How can I increase the number of file descriptors per process?

Thx for all your help.. Now that I know to change the required kernel parameters, I can do that and change the db_files parameter in Oracle to prevent the error in the alert_log..

Thx
