Ultra 2 hostid cause no network functions?

Hi all,

I recently had to swap hostid on an Ultra 2 workstations. Somehow the workstation could not connect to network after booting up using the alien hostid.

There's nothing unusual, no error messages. ifconfig -a shows everything up and AOK. Network settings was not changed so we can rule out misconfiguration.

I swapped back with the original hostid and everything went back to normal. Could this mean that somehow the alien hostid is faulty and caused network to not work?. Unfortunately I do not have another Ultra 2 to test this. Wonder if any Sun managers out there seen this before?
