Sun Gurus,
Have a Task At Hand..
We have a E3500 Sun Server with 4 GB RAM, Dual CPU Which is our Datamart Server Running Oracle 8.1.6
Then there is this iPlanet 6.5 Application Server Running on a E450 machine which acts as web and application server.
The Web server being used is also iPlanet.
The application is coded in JSP and is primarily an Customer Service Application which customer service agents use
to answer customer calls and do online updations onto this database. The application is web enabled and end users
access the application useing IE from their PC.
The challenge however has been Response times in access to this application from the PC's for these end users..
The Sun Server Load avverage is going as high as 20-30 and following is one of the SAR output
Average %usr = 82
% sys = 18
% idle = 0
We tried to put partition onto Database tables this weekend but response seemed to worsen yesterday and
load went as high as 80..
Now though at present we are having load between 20-30 the end users are getting refresh rates of screens in seconds or
minutes..
My Questions
1) How can i find out if both my CPU are being used by application and individual load on them
2) What are Performance improvement Oppourtunities
3) Is there a best practice to follow to and diagnose such problems (any documents, FAQ etc)
4) What if i replace the Sun3500 with an Intel 4 CPU box , 4GB RAM for oracle database server ?
