IMPORTANT: special clarification on appropriate postings

It's rather disappointing I need to send out a message like this, but there
has been a flurry of questions to the list that indicate an unwillingness or
an inability to read the standard system documentation first.

I will be blunt, at the risk of seeming harsh.

This list is not intended to be a forum for learning basic systems
administration. Rather, it is intended to be a resource for system
administrators faced with difficult, time-critical problems. The list is
unmoderated, and relies on the cooperation of all posters for its operation.
It is read by systems administration professionals all over the world. Don't
waste everyone's time by asking questions that are already answered in the
system documentation. You will merely expose your laziness, incompetence, or
lack of cooperation for everyone to see. If you cannot act professionally on
this list, don't post. If you cannot refrain from posting inappropriately,
you will be removed from the list.

If you're in doubt what sorts of postings are appropriate for this list, I
post this information regularly. You can read it yourself at any time by
pointing your web browser to http://www.sunmanagers.org and following the
link "How to Post".

Further, if you do ask an appropriate question, and you receive responses,
please remember to summarize those responses to the list so that others can
benefit.

Regards,

John
