Previously:
Previously: A recent discussion with my co-wokers about synchronizing OS time has
Previously: prompted this question:
Previously:
Previously: Does ntpdate and/or rdate affect the date and time at the hardware level
Previously: or just at the OS level?
Previously:
Previously: The man pages do not discuss this.

I received several answers of varying degree. The general consensus is
that, depending on the OS/motherboard the BIOS (or real time clock) may
adjust itself when ntpdate/rdate is called.

Intels running Linux will not update the RTC; Solaris/Sparcs will.

Thanks to those who answered.
