cpu temperature monitoring sun fire3800

Hi,

I am running a sun fire 3800 with solaris 8 and want to monitor the cpu
temperatures. On my older systems (enterprise 450's) I can use the prtdiag
command, that shows me not only the cpu temperature but also the ambient
temperature which is also very useful since our airconditioning system in
the server room tends to fail on hot days.
I have searched the docs.sun.com archives, sunsolve and the internet but
cannot find how to get my cpu temperatures from within the OS. I can get the
temperatures with a showenv command on the system controller prompt, but
that's no good for my monitoring scripts. I have called sun and they also
can't tell me straight why I can't see the temperature information in the
prtdiag output. They're still looking into it.
Is there anything I am missing? Should I activate some kind of environmental
monitoring somewhere? (on the open-boot prompt perhaps?)
The strange thing is that the guy at sun was also looking at a fire 3800 and
his prtdiag-output did show him the temperatures... very weird. Our system
is up and running since two months, and has most of the recent recommended
patches installed. I hope someone on this list has any suggestions.

Regards,
Karen.
