interpreting "minor faults" in vmstat

the following output came from a live system:

this machine has two entirely different oracle databases running on it,
and is obviously cpu bound.

other than a high number of system calls in the absense of a high
number of interrupts, what can be said about the number of minor faults?

what condition(s) cause minor faults?
