Tape Drive Permissions

I recently installed a 4mm DAT drive into an E250. Reconfiguration
rebooted, and the drive was added, and can be accessed. Here is where the
weirdness comes in.

A tape that was written to in another DAT drive on another machine can be
read, written to, and easily manipulated. If I put any other tape in, when
I try to write to it (tar cvf /dev/rmt/2n FILE), I get permission denied.

I have tried brand new tapes out of the wrapper, tried the WP switch in both
positions, toggled the WP switch to make sure it was set, etc. Nothing
seems to help.

Any one ever have the same type of issue? Or can you lend some possible
reasons as to why the permission denied?

I will summarize.

TIA
