A1000 firmware upgrade failure - recovery?

Hi,

I'm looking for instructions on recovering an A1000 which doesn't boot.
The documentation on Sun is full of "consult a customer service
representitive", which is something I like to think of as a last resort
(especially as this A1000 was on a devel host, and we're going to want
to do the same to a number of production hosts, so it's rather important
we know how to recover it ourselves if it fails on an upgrade to a
production host).

Basically this is what happens continually:

### Symbios Logic Series 3 SCSI RAID Controller ###
### Copyright 1997, Symbios Logic Inc. ###
### Sun Microsystems RAID Controller ###
### Serial number: 1T91154297 ###

Send <BREAK> for shell access or baud rate change
undefined symbol: _checkFlashLockBit
KERNEL ERROR: Bad format or unresolved references in flash file
"/FFAppl"

Shell access fails, with the same error (followed by PROCESSOR EXCEPTION
DURING PREVIOUS OPERATION, and the time it occurred).

On bootup I can press space twice to get into the boot operations menu
which has a menu option "Download Permanent File". A web search for
that
menu option is rather unhelpful, it brings up a match for the IBM SAN
which
is basically a later version of the Symbios product.

Is there a utility somewhere I can load onto a laptop and use to load
all
the latest firmwares etc in via the boot operations menu, rather than
the
painful multistep upgrade required to upgrade old A1000s in service
(a process littered with "consult a customer service representitive")?

David.
