Sybase issues on Sun 420R

I hope this is the right forum for this. I have a couple Sun 420Rs
running solaris 8, recommended patches, alot of tuning, running
Sybase ASE 12.5.0/EBF 10424, dual 450mhz CPUs, 2048megs of memory.
The problem is that these servers are dropping to their knees when
the dataserver is running transactions. I'm running the SE Toolkit
and ran the sp_sysmon to get performance results and so far the
network, disk I/O, memory and so forth is under 10%, which is
great, but CPU 2 is being pegged by the dataserver and little to no
usage on CPU 1 other than OS. Solaris 8 with some of the tuning I've
done is handling memory usage and I/O smoothly, just not the Sybase
side of things. I've pretty much exhausted the Sybase Admin site with
little help other than setting n=2. My problem is, if I set this
parameter, will Sybase over-run both CPUs. Can anyone provide some
guidance, tips, documentation or anything that can help me spread
out the CPU resources? I would love to take some of the recommendations
of my database folks and add in more memory and CPUs <LOL>.

thanks Skip
