Folks,
Yet another twist on the perennial favourite, "How do I set full
duplex?"
Is there any way to set the hme adapter of Ultra 5/10 class machines
to full duplex at the OBP level only?
Our scenario is that we have a Catalyst 5500 with pure 10M ports which
don't appear to support autonegotiation. In steady state, this isn't
a problem - we just do the usual hme:hme_adv_autoneg_cap (etc.)
settings in /etc/system and away we go.
The problem arises when booting from the net when jumpstarting: it
seems that the adapter tries to negotiate and, naturally, fails. This
leaves it 10-half, while the Cisco is at 10-full. The jumpstart then
grinds on with excruciating slowness, collisions, FCS-errors etc.
I can't simply change the boot image /etc/system because a) that won't
help with the tftp portion of the boot, and b) I need to be able to
jumpstart both half and full-duplex machines. I suppose I could
maintain two boot images, but that seems like overkill (as well as
being error prone).
Any suggestions gratefully received (and summarised)!
Regards,
Neil
