backup full system

hi all,

what is the command to backup full system into tape?

Including configuration OS , database and aplication. So that if I have a
trouble , I can restore my tape into empty hard disk and this new hard disk
will be filled with the last backup from tape.

is it enough to make it using tar cvf in single user mode ?

or is there any way to make backup full system
