PC Netlink and Windows 2000 permissions problems

Hello, all,

I am running an E420R w/ Solaris 8 03/02 and 03/02 patches w/ PC Netlink
1.2 serving two A1000s to an NT 4.0 domain via several
directories/mappings. About 2 weeks ago, this server inexplicably
crashed, so badly that even the engineers at Sun were unable to find
anything of forensic value and the machine had to be rebuilt from
scratch. The data on the 2 A1000s did not seem to be affected at the
time. After I jumpstarted the machine and re-installed PC Netlink,
everything seemed fine, and my directories shared to the NT network were
fine. Then, about a week ago, one of my Windows 2000 users reported that
she could not change the file name of any files on one of the shared
directories, getting an error that part of the file was in use and
locked. I confirmed this message even from the NT domain administrator
account, but that was on a Windows 2000 machine. The administrator
account logged onto a Windows NT machine was able to make changes
successfully. Additionally, from any account logged onto a Windows NT
machine, the correct group permissions show up for the directories and
files. However, from any account logged into a Windows 2000 machine, an
incorrect set of group permissions is shown (wrong groups, even). On the
Unix side, all the directories and files are properly owned by the
lmworld user and the DOS group (for files), or root group (for
directories). It is also worth noting that files can be read and written
to, deleted, added, and moved, just not have their filenames changed.

I really just don't understand well enough how PCNetLink manages NT
permissions, so I'm really lost on troubleshooting this. Any help or
advice would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Scott
