I have an ultra1 (170E) on which I tried to install solaris 8.
It appeared to have problems with configuring the networking during install,
but everything else seemed to go ok. I re-downloaded and re-burned the
cd set and tried again. Identical problem and symptoms.
I then added the recommended and security patch set, and had no errors
outside of "this h/w s/w not installed, patch failed". Nothing to
worry about there.
The problem:
The machine will not come up on the network, it does not configure the
hme0 interface during boot.
My workaround:
$> touch /etc/.UNCONFIGURED
$> reboot -- -r
the machine then boots and sees that it has an hme0 interface, but does
not set it up, so I manually do:
$> ifconfig hme0 xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx up (from memory, syntax may not be correct)
and all is well, until I reboot again and all is lost.
What is going on here?
thanks,
-chuck
