I'm building a database server (Fire 280R, 2x1.2ghz,
4GB RAM) and plan to connect a MultiPack-FC with
2x73gb drives which will be in a mirrored RAID-1
array. I'll create the array with DiskSuite. I'm
also going to create another RAID-1 array for the OS
and swap space using the internal sf280R drives.
I've considered getting an A1000 because it supports
hardware RAID, but I've read that Sun plans to stop
supporting this piece of equipment. Does anyone out
there know anything about this?
Would any of you recommend for/against the MP and
using DiskSuite to build software RAID-1 arrays? Is
there another product that I should be looking into
that is in the same price range as the MP-FC?
I don't suspect that I'll take much of a performance
hit (e.g. compared to using no RAID) using software
RAID1, but I'd like to hear what the people on this
list think.
