Hi, im having swap problems

This is my top:
Memory: 4096M real, 1784M free, 3242M swap in use, 86M swap free
Why if i have 1784M free im using 3GB of swap?
My system is 5.8 Generic_108528-18 sun4u sparc SUNW,Ultra-80
