problems with nfslogd

Hello, our main fileserver is an e450 running solaris 8, with
maintenance update 4 applied. A couple of days ago I turned on nfs logging via
nfslogd and shortly after turned it back off as it was generating quite
a bit of logging information. The problem is that the nfslogd that was
started at that time refuses to be killed, and any attempts at
logging-related operations freeze or fail; specifically
- nfslogd cannot be killed with any signal or
otherwise caused to stop (though it doesn't appear to be logging
anything, and trussing the process shows nothing)
- attempting to turn on nfs logging for an(other) exported filesystem causes the
share command to be unkillable, though unsharing/sharing of
filesystems without using nfs logging work
- (possibly unrelated) modinfo, when run, will also display the above behaviour (freezing, being unkillable)

I'm also concerned that other parts of the OS will also begin locking
up/behaving mysteriously.
Obviously it would be nice if this could be solved without stopping nfs
service (or rebooting the machine), but I haven't been able to find
anything on docs.sun (or manpages, etc) or in my searches of sunsolve.
Any information about this, or what I could do to diagnose/isolate the
problem would be appreciated.

Thanx.
