UPDATE: Changing Drivers on a CD-ROM

Sorry for the delay in this partial summary, but the issue isn't really
resolved yet.

Many thanks to Russ Poffenberger, who pointed out that the OEI CD is
actually Solaris 7, so its drivers won't work with 2.5.1. I should have
realized that in the first place. He also pointed out during our
correspondence that since the machine gets installed properly after using
the OEI CD, then the 2.5.1 CD *must* have the drivers on it somewhere.

I have had some success in getting the CD-ROM drivers on the CD. I copied
the CD-ROM (amd video) driver from the installed system to the CD, and the
CD boots the system now. Still, I am missing the video driver when booted
from CD. The source of my consternation seems to be the method in which
certain files, like driver_aliases or devlink.tab, are created in /tmp/etc
when the machine boots. I need to figure out how this occurs and modify it
so it adds the correct video driver. If anyone understands the CD boot
process to this level, I'd be happy to hear some explanation. ;-)

Regards,
Charles

Subject: Changing Drivers on a CD-ROM

Greetings:

I am trying to munge the Solaris 2.5.1 (HW 11/97) install CD to include new
drivers for some odd hardware we have here - specifically the CD-ROM,
floppy, and framebuffer. The Operating Environment Installation CD (Feb.
2000) has the correct drivers, so I figured I would just copy the drivers
from there and burn a new 2.5.1 CD with the modified drivers. Problem is, I
can't find them.

So my question is: Where are the drivers for the floppy, CD-ROM, and
framebuffer drive on a CD? Can I just put the drivers themselves in, or do
I need to use the newer genunix (or anything else) as well?

Any and all help would be appreciated!

Thanks!
Charles
