LDAP (imports and exports - backup and restore)
Netscape LDAP 4.1
Solaris 2.6

I want to give additional details on my LDAP question. The ldap utilities for backup
and restore seem to be specific to each and every -Directory-Server. Like
-Directory-Server-Client1/bak2db and -Directory-Server-Client1/db2bak. These
backup the instance of that the -Directory-Server only. Also, if I try to move that
-Directory -Server backup to another machine were the -Directory-Server does not
exist I don't get the command to restore probably I have to define the
-Directory-Server on the -Server-Group on the Recovery Machine (MachineB).

The basic question continues to be: How can I import the entire LDAP configuration
from one machine to another (ie MachineA to MachineB) start the slapd servers
and start the admin and have it work in one shot?

Netscape LDAP 4.1
Solaris 2.6

I have two machines. One system is running LDAP (machine A):

 -root.com
         -machinea.domain.com
                 -server-group
                         -Admin-Server
                         -Directory-Server-Client1
                         -Directory-Server-Client2
                                           -Directory-Server-Client3
                                           -Directory-Server-Client4
                                           -Directory-Server-Client5

 Machine B:

 -root.com
         -machineb.domain.com
                 -server-group

I been asked to backup and restore ( not replicate from machine A to machine B)
they want backup and restores or exports from machineA to machineB.

Everything I been reading is geared towards a Master/Slave Client/Replica the
people asking for this do not want "replication".

I have seen this to export the data to an LDIF file:
 db2ldif -n database1 -a output.ldif -s "dc=siroe,dc=com" -s "o=NetscapeRoot"

I have seen things like this to import the data from an LDIF file:
 ldif2db -n Database1 \
 -i /usr/iplanet/servers/slapd-siroe/ldif/demo.ldif \
 -i /usr/iplanet/servers/slapd-siroe/ldif/demo2.ldif

What I am been reading about exports and imports seems to be done from one
machine to the same machine how can I import the entire LDAP configuration
from one machine to another (ie MachineA to MachineB) start the slapd servers
and start the admin and have it work in one shot?

It would be nice if you could just copy the slapd directories and start the slapd for
each directory server. Does not work the slapd the copied this way does not even
show on the Admin Server. Any suggestions?

Carlos
