Sun experts:

Please help! I have purchased two new X5237A hard drives for my Ultra E450,
Solaris 7. The box already has six drives installed (slots 0 &1 in lower
backplane, and slots 4, 5, 8 & 9 in second). I installed new drives in
slot 2 and slot 6. However probe-scsi-all does not see the new drives, and
I get a string of errors on reboot.

The first time I booted, no errors. I issued the "disks" and "drvconfig"
commands. Then proceeded to "format". The OS did not see the drives. So I
took server down to "ok" prompt. A probe-scsi-all only saw the original 6
hard drives. Shut it down, reseated the drives and rebooted.

Second boot gives me string of errors on re-boot on my OLD drives! Says my
metadevice d0 (a Raid 5) needs maintenance and that the hotspare errored on
opening. Two (slots 8 and 9) of the old drives gave warning: disk not
responding to selection, offline. I shut the server down and removed the
new drives and then re-booted and it came up fine.

The drives were purchased from R2 technologies, not from SUN. They are
Seagate ST318305LC. Could the drives be bad? Would a difference in the
Ultra Wide format cause this as in Ultra3 SCSI vs Ultra1? SUN website says
the drives are interchangeable, and that the Ultra3 is the manufactured
supplied drive.

Any help or suggestions welcome!
