MAC/IP Address conflict that isn't (Follow-up)

No joy on a resolution to my basic problem. The problem and the messages
persist.

My thanks to the following for trying:

Stephen Ryan
Tony Tran
Andy Clegg
Michael Horton
Fabrice Guerni
David Glass
Rick McKinney
Ed Rolison

Most suggested the possibility that there were two NIC's involved. But no,
there aren't. Rick suggested the possibility of more than one
/etc/hostname.??? file, pointing to the same host.
Nothing there.

One mystery was solved however; the question of why MAC address was not
recognized. We had searched on the website:
http://standards.ieee.org/regauth/oui/index.shtml. If you search using ":"
as a separator, it doesn't pick up anything. If you search without
separators, or with "-" as a separator, it will tell you that Sun is the
manufacturer. Go figure.

Subject: MAC/IP Address conflict that isn't

I just loaded a SunFire 280R, (2 x 900MHz CPU's, 4GB memory) with Solaris 8
(2/02). I selected both IPv4 and IPv6 when asked.

After it was rebooted following initial installation, it started recording
warnings as follows:

"Warning: IP: Hardware address '00:03:BA:nn:nn:nn' trying to be our address
'123.123.12.123'.

The IP address is not used elsewhere on our network. The MAC address is the
NIC card built into the motherboard. The message repeats all day, randomly,
but about every 1.5 - 2 Hrs.

Before I discovered the machine itself was the MAC address in question, I
searched on the database of manufacturers, and this grouping does not
appear.

Does any one know what is causing this? How can I stop the process?
