a5200 disk slot restrictions

Ok,
my questions are in regards to the summary (see below) sent out last year.
I've found in the A5x00 installation and service manual where it says that
certain slots must be populated and "DO NOT MOVE DISK DRIVES FROM THE MINIMUM
CONFIGURATION" or the world will explode, yada yada. It does not explain why
that is so and that really irks me.

1) Therefore, Matt (if you're still out there) or anyone else, what are your
sources for the reasons why the slot restrictions are what they are (you know,
"the circuitry on the disk drives rege..")?
2) How did you get that to translate "In English: you can't put the disks more
than 5 slots from one another"? I just can't see it...it doesn't make sense to
me for the rear slot restrictions..
3) More importantly, does this disk slot restriction apply when you have a
split loop configuration? I am currently operating an A5200 in a split loop
config with 2 hosts accessing the front disks and 2 separate hosts accessing the
rear disks...

Thanks in advance and I'm looking forward to some replies from the Sun engineers
who built the A5200 :}

Thanks to those who responded (3)...

Here is what I found out:
The slots which are filled with disks at the factory are not magical but are
important. The disks are spaced in the A5200 array (Front:0,5,10
Rear:0,3,6,10) "because circuitry on the disk drives regenerate and retime
the data signals which corrects signal quality loss accumulated through the
bypass circuitry between empty slots". In English: you can't put the disks
more the 5 (4 empty) slots from one another or you may get intermittent and
strange errors.

So as disks are added they should be spaced to minimize the gaps between
disks.

Original Question:
Gurus,

This seems like a painfully easy question, but even my master reseller can't
answer it. I've looked in the FAQ, archives, and SUN's many web sites. No
luck.

Are there slot restrictions for disk drives in an SUN StorEdge A5200?
Should certain disk slots be filled before others?
