PPP over T1

Hi,

Dunno if this is the place to be asking this, but here goes:

We're trying to connect a Sun E250 and a SunBlade with each other over a
T1 line. On either end of the T1, there is a Cisco 2600 router (the
machines are on different networks), and connected to the analog port on
the router is a modem... which is connected to the serial port on the
Sun machine.

Now, what we're supposed to be able to do is initiate the connection
from one modem and have it automatically pick up on the other end, but
what's happening is that, when we take one modem off-hook, it seems to
attempt to make the connection, but the hand-shaking never seems to
work. We get the usual high tone, then a lower one, than another lower
one, but the connection never seems to get made. I'm thinking that
somewhere the baud rates aren't agreeing, as I've heard this particular
set of sounds before when I try to dial a low-speed modem with a
high-speed one and they don't auto-negotiate right.

Has anybody out there gotten something like this to work? What do I
need to look at to find out why the two modems aren't connecting?

TIA and IWS.
