I posted earlier with a vast amount of incorrect
information from the person who asked me to help out on
this. Here is a repost with correct and more details:

We have an E6500 with a A5100 attached. The customer
just received from sun two 36GB Seagate Cheetah
ST336605FC disks. We are on Solaris 7 and using UFS
with no volume management.

Initially they had not used luxadm to insert the disks.
I had them luxadm remove / insert the disks into the
array. The device paths are correctly created and the
disks show up as O.K. in the enclosure.

However, when you go into format, when you try to label
in the format utility you get an error indicating it
cannot write the VTOC and there is no backup label.
This occurs with both disks. These are the only two
ST336605FC disks in the enclosure. Syslog reports
warnings such as "disk not responding to selection" and
"Lost Frame (write)".

Doing a format of the disk in the format utility fails
(tried this on one of the disks) and in luxadm display
that disk shows as On(Not Readable).

Any ideas? On sunsolve I came across a 4/5/02 patch
109962-07 which is a firmware upgrade for this (and
other) seagate products. They are going to schedule
some downtime to apply that. But there was nothiing
like this in the bug descriptions associated with that
patch...

Thank you
Terry
