SSA model information

contributed by Joe Harman

The number is basicly broken down into three pieces.

  1. model number
  2. arch
  3. capacity

The model number is either a 100 or a 200. They used the same controller and firmware but one (the 200) has a few pieces of hardware removed from the controller (terminating resistors). The 100 is the used with single ended SCSI disc, and the 200 connects to another board that in turn connects to diff SCSI disc... Thus one works with single ended SCSI disc and the other with diff SCSI disc...

The arch is determined by the processor used on the controller board. The 10x or 20x use the Tsunami (spelt something like that) processor. The 11x and the 21x controllers use the Swift Processor (the same as in a SS5), this is a 110 Mhz processor and much faster. There is also a difference in the size of memory in the two arch, the 11x and the 21x have 4 times the NVRAM and general memory available in the box.

The capacity is shown in the last number. The 1xx series is as follows:

0 = .5 Gbyte
1 = 1.05 Gbyte
2 = 2.1 Gbyte

These are the disc shipped in the system from the factory. This doesnot mean that these are the only disc in the box. In a 100 system you can find all three of the disc in the box. These disc could have been added at a later time...

The capacity for the 2xx is as follows:

 0 = base line product, either 2.9 or 9 Gbyte disc
 4 = 4 Gbyte disc

The RSM makes reference to the Tabasco product, which is a part of the 200 series....
