Check for the presence of the file /etc/vx/.newnames

If present, then vxvm will use the new OS device naming mechanism. If you want the old style naming, remove and reboot. I think there may be a technote on this to do it online. [ed: technote 240025. Also run vxconfigd -k and you won't need to reboot.]
