Problem Description A procedure to replace a disk within the E3500 enclosure

This procedure will cover replacing a simple datadisk a mirrored disk under Volume manager control

The procedures are all individually explained in various documents for A5000, and Volume manager related documents.The aim of this document is to bring these procedures together within one document for FCAL disks within the E3500 enclosure.

• Ensure the the following patches, which provide support for the luxadm commands, are installed (or higher)

Problem Solution REPLACING A SIMPLE DATA DISK

1. Unmount the disk and then stop it with

   # luxadm stop <logical path or physical path or WWN ...>

2. Remove the device entries,the following command will complete this

   # luxadm remove_device <logical path or physical path or WWN ...>

3. Replace the disk and then

   # luxadm insert <no arguments required >

This will recreate the device entries, the device is now ready to be used.

Problem Solution REPLACING A MIRRORED DISK UNDER VOLUME MANAGER CONTROL

1. Inform Volume Manager you wish to remove the disk

   # vxdiskadm option 4 (Remove a disk for replacement)

2. Take the disk offline

   # vxdiskadm option 11 (Disable (offline) a disk device)

3. Remove the device entries, the following command will complete this

   # luxadm remove_device <  logical path or physical path or WWN ...>

4. Replace the disk and then

   # luxadm insert <  no arguments required>

5. Inform Volume Manager of the new device

   # vxdctl enable

6. Bring the disk back online

   # vxdiskadm option 5 (Replace a failed or removed disk)
