You could always compromise a system on the LAN then use that to sniff
and report back. Of course the user may notice that their NIC is no
longer working...

Well man, u have to be in the middle of client-server connection or in
the server or in the client.
U can use arp techs if u are in a lan but if u are talking about
internet u have to be in one of the middle devices of the connections.
