A suggestion from the Moderator

All,

As Alfred mentioned, I've taken over list moderation duties for the next few
months. I wanted to take a moment to make a suggestion which would help me
in my duties as well as (hopefully) increase the usefulness of the
information we share.

I've been following the recent SQL injection discussion with much interest.
Many members have chimed in with information on various tools and IDS
solutions to assist Faisel with his questions. Part of the moderator task is
to weed out submissions which are outside the list charter or information
which is too generic or basic. I'd like to request that when you submit a
tool or product recommendation in a discussion that some background or more
information is given other than "Use foo." While lists of tools/products can
be useful to get an idea of what offerings are out there it gives no sense
of context.

Where possible, information on why suggested tool/product would be useful
and/or experiences with its capabilities & features and how they address the
current problem would be beneficial to everyone.

Bad: "Try foo."
        "Or bar."
        "Here's a list of foobar's."

Good: "Use foo. It can assist you with doing X and I've used/seen it work in
similar situations. It can also do Y which may not apply in your case but
can be helpful if you ever need Z"

Thanks!

Erin Carroll
