Well if you're going to go by the services file, it would be an Applix
related program. Have you tried a netstat -an on the machine that the
port shows it opened on? Telnetted to it? Anything other than run a
scanner on it? I could set up anything to port 999 means nothing. Try
telnetting to the port, running a netstat etc.
