We were evaluating it as well and came across the exact
same issue. Sometimes ports would show as open, sometimes
not (when they never changed) as well as fixed problems
showing up. They do keep a good traffic log you can look at
(sometimes it is difficult to determine if a machine has
been patched. IE the exploit can only be figured if you do
it.. which runs a high risk to any production environment
so other markers are used to say "this may be a problem")
Another thing to check is if nmap gives the same results
retina does every time, since they use nmap on the backend
for port scans.
