The HTTP TRACE Method on a web server is used for debugging purposes.
The server responds to the request by echoing back the contents of the
request back. The TRACE method can be used to exploit an XSS
vulnerability if the httpOnly cookie attribute is used. The httpOnly
cookie makes the cookie "write only". An attempt to read the cookie
results in a null value. In an XSS attack (amidst other things) if
you want to steal the cookie, any references in the payload to
document.cookie return a null value but an XMLHttpRequest with TRACE
method inside the payload will reveal the Cookie HTTP Header.

Hope it helps,
Rajat.
