Great info all, Thanks so much. I was looking at the Cantenna as it's
very portable. Do you know if would work with N Wireless ?

When I pen-test wireless, I usually know what he target it is, however
in a black box test, I'd like to get more range even though I'm in the
high-rise building parking lot which doesn't always grab a signal.

If this antenna you're looking at goes "up to 10 miles", it's gonna be very directional. You want something with more of a circular pattern. An 8 db gain onmi will reach out pretty far but if you're in a city, you might miss things in high buildings close to you. If you're someplace where it's flat with few tall buildings, perhaps a 12 db gain would work. Look at and understand the pattern of the antenna you're getting. In a pen-test, you know your target (as opposed to random wardriving) so you might want to use a high gain directional antenna like this yagi you're talking about to connect to the target network from a long way away.
