I would like to thank all who responded to my question regarding MAILX.
However none of the replies helped me solve the problem.
We have an HP/UX 11.11 system that indicates "sendmail" is up and
functional (i.e. ps-ef | grep sendmail).
If the user uses "ELM" to send mail to our Exchange server all is well,
the mail gets delivered and we can see the transaction in the mail.log.
However when a user or script uses "mailx" to either pipe out put to
mailx (i.e. Echo "Filename.txt" | mailx -s "subject"
addressee@domain.com or mailx -s "subject" addressee@domain.com
<Filename.input
Noting is sent and there are no messages in logs.
If you type: mailx -s "subject" addressee@domain.com and hit the Enter
key expecting you will be able to start entering the text of the message
then ctrlD to send, you get sent back to the system prompt when you
press the enter key.
Again nothing in syslog/mail.log etc.
We can use any of the above combinations from other HP/UX servers and
they work, we have made no changes to the sendmail.cf file etc.
Any ideas how we can debug, correct the problem without having to reboot
the system?
