Hi All,

Model: rp8420
OS: HP-UX 11.11
#CPU: 8
RAM : 32GB

We were concerned that the swap utilization was high (> 80%), so we added another 16GB of swap space to the existing 16GB. Yes, we can see the usage is now around 60%, but it uses less memory:

Before:
# swapinfo -tm
Mb Mb Mb PCT START/ Mb
TYPE AVAIL USED FREE USED LIMIT RESERVE PRI NAME
dev 16384 0 16384 0% 0 - 1 /dev/vg00/lvol2
reserve - 16264 -16264
memory 18829 13642 5187 72%
total 35213 29906 5307 85% - 0 -

After:
# swapinfo -tm
Mb Mb Mb PCT START/ Mb
TYPE AVAIL USED FREE USED LIMIT RESERVE PRI NAME
dev 16384 0 16384 0% 0 - 1 /dev/vg00/lvol2
dev 16384 0 16384 0% 0 - 1 /dev/vg00/lvol9
reserve - 21102 -21102
memory 18829 9804 9025 52%
total 51597 30906 20691 60% - 0 -

So I am not sure whether this is an improvement or degradation in terms of performance. I am wondering if the swap space is really being used, when its usage from memory is only 52%. How can I limit the paging to use more memory since I thought it's faster?

Regards,
Edi
