Thanks again to Daniel Copeland and also David Lee Totsch for their response. It was the fact that my logfile max sizes were set to low. I increase them and was able to get a couple of days worth of info.

>From Dan:
Process level detail is captured every minute. Global level detail is
every 5 min (or 15 min if you use -G).

If you have a busy box, and you have "process = 20" (default) you will
fill up the 20MB pretty quickly. For comparison, on one of our busy
SDs, I have it set to 200 and it only keeps 36 hrs worth of process
detail.

It's likely that your first process record is at 15:04 PM. You can
confirm this by doing this:

Start an interactive extract session -- /opt/perf/bin/extract

type logfile

hit return (to accept the default logfile location)

this will display the different types and when the 1st record is.

>From David:
First of all, run "utility -xs" to see how far back data is stored. If
you have lots of processes that are "interesting" (see
/var/opt/perf/parm for how "interesting" is defined), you run the
potential of storing only one day's worth of data (depending on how much
space you gave the LOGPROC data file).

Second of all, process data is logged on one-minute intervals; all other
data is logged on five-minute intervals. When you call "extract", note
that there are two levels of detail: -g is global detail and -G is
global summary. Also notice that process does not have a summary
equivalent. Now, look at your report file. It has a SUMMARY directive.
You can select -G and tell SUMMARY to roll up to 30-minute intervals.
Output works best when they match. When you use SUMMARY, you will also
notice that anything named rate will be averaged across the roll-up
intervals, but all other metrics are accumulated.

Subject: [HPADM] Another Measureware extract question

Hello Again,
I am doing an extract for one day using "extract -p -r reptfile -f outfile -xp d-1" or instead of the d-1 option I used the -s and -e options. I also ran "extract -g -r reptfile -b 02/14/06 00:30 AM -e 02/14/06 23:30 PM -f outfile -xp". The problem I am seeing on this system is that with the "extract -p" command the first record starts at 15:04 PM instead of 00:30 AM and goes through 23:30 PM reporting every minute where the "extract -g" will start at 00:30 AM and go through 23:30 PM showing a record every 5 min. I do the "extract -p" on another system running same version of HP-UX 11.0 and the first record starts at 11:30 AM. Is this because of the definition of the size of the logfiles (i.e. logglob, logproc, logdev, logapp, and logtran)currently set to default or is there a parameter that could be set incorrectly? Your suggestions and help are appreciated.

Thanks,
Jim Naylor
