[HPADM] crypt: cannot generate key

All,

We have a script on our systems that is used to transfer files from one
system to another, using ftp. the ftp username and password is stored in
a encrypted file. This file is decrypted using the crypt(1) command. (I
know, this is not really safe, but it's better then nothing.)

Now the problem is that sometimes this crypt command files with the
error message:

     crypt: cannot generate key

It is an intermittent problem. It files only once and than runs days
without problem. I have the impression that it happens only when many
instances of this script run at the same time, but I am not completely
sure of this.

Has anyone of you ever seen this "crypt: cannot generate key" message?
And even more important: how did you solve it?

Best regards,
Kees Couprie
