[HPADM] garbage to console during boot

 All,

This is not a summary (and I hope that you will not consider it spam). But we had a pretty weird incident happen with a D class running 11.0 and I wanted to share the conclusion with the list in the event that this was a rare one.

 Problem / symptom:

HP D class server, running HP-UX 11.0, has an issue with its console during boot. This only happens during boot and it happens after the BCH (right after the memory check). What happens is, when booting up, the text to the console is okay until it says that it is checking memory. Then the text drops down to the bottom 3 lines of the display and overwrites itself as the bootup continues. When it comes all of the way up, the login prompt appears and this problem goes away.

 Solution:

HP support determined that the /etc/ioctl.syscon file had gotten corrupted. They suggested that I move it out of /etc and reboot, which spawned a new file. This fixed the console problem of the garbage being displayed during boot.
