[HPADM] Fwd: Re: [SUMMARY] Emacs Vs PuTTy

Thanks for all giving me suggestion.
Basically there is no Emacs mapping for PuTTy. But I
find lots of valuable information about SSH from the
list. The one I love to use is Gui version to replace
PuTTy from Jim McDonald.

"Does have to be putty - try something else - see
http://cs.mscd.edu/MSSH/index.html for listing of
other free ones.
You didn't mention - is it GUI or character based.
Putty - no luck there as it emacs keymap is still on
the "wish list"
Regards
Jim McDonald "

        Subject: [HPADM] Emacs Vs PuTTy

We are switching QVT/Tem to PuTTy terminal emulator
for SSH login. Older version of free QVT/Term does not
support SSH login. Newer QVT/Term version which
supports SSH costs money for license and support.
PuTTy is free. The problem that PuTTy is not working
well with Emacs. Two third of my programmers are using
Emacs. When switch to PuTTy, they lose all the Emacs
Function Key Mapping that control by '.emacs' file in
their home directory. Example when use Emacs on
QVT/Term, F1=save, F2=search? That does not work with
PuTTy. Is there a way to map Function keys with PuTTy
to work with Emacs editor? Thanks.

Stephanie
