[HPADM] SUMMARY: Collecting Performance Data

Below is the original question followed by the answers I've received. For
interest sake, we are running Navisphere Analyzer but I didn't see the
availability to collect more than 26 hours worth of data. I did follow up
with our System Engineer when he was out to our site and he agreed with me
that this is all the data you can collect so I will be following up with him
as it would certainly help a lot to have all the data available at once.
Thanks for you input!

Good Morning

We recently went live with an EMC disk array and are now looking at the
collection of data for doing performance graphs. We used to have an HP
VA7400 and the collection and exporting of data to an excel spreadsheet for
graphing was relatively simple. However, I find the EMC is not as flexible,
for examples it only allows collection of about 26 hours of data before it
rolls over and replaces that data. In the past, we were creating monthly
performance graphs for management to review and would like to setup
something similar with the EMC. Does anyone have experience with this or
any suggestions on how to accomplish this?

Thanks for your input.

EMC Analyzer

Roberta,

You need to talk to your System Engineer. The Performance View product that
is sold with the array is customizable to collect small interval data. It
also maintains historical data for 5 years by default (that is also
customizable.) In addition, you can get real time information using both GUI
(ECC) or CLI (Solutions Enabler).

The data that is collected can also be exported in a csv format for import
into an Excel spreadsheet-- since you seem to be familiar and comfortable
using Excel to do performance analysis, this maybe a better option.

Obviously the problem you are facing is more of a communication issue rather
than lack of tools as you suggest. Good luck.
