Admins,
Thx for those who responded (I hadnt even seen the original post before I
sent out Summary 1) :)
I feel I should mention a few things....and what we tried....
A few folks said link the /tmp dir to a new location.... I did not want
to on a production system for other procs that are using files in tmp....
and I could have done it with a reboot, but that is out of the question
during the day.
...or link the directory which oracle uses to a new location... we
tried this....it creates the /tmp/OraInstall....... dir with a timestamp
down to the second. We actually were able to create an appropriately
named link, then wait for that exact second to kick off the installer.
After 2 tries of missing it by one second, we managed to get it on the
correct second, however the Installer then just appended an _1 after
the dir name, and still used /tmp (a valliant effort).
Getting the correct variable name was the key...
Thx to the responders

Admins,
Oracle's 9i runInstaller is failing due to running out of space in
my 100 MB /tmp partition. I dont have any free extents on there to
increase /tmp.
I've tried setting the TMPDIR variable (is that the right one??) to
point it to another location with no luck. Has anyone gotten around
this?
Thx,
Dave
