Question #1:

> I have a system going in that needs to connect to two different networks, at different times. The owners of one network, (different group, the usual story) insist that it be protected by an air gap from everyone else, but would allow me to connect to it to collect data from the machines on this network, if I am isolated. Since I also need to be connected to the campus network, except when I am collecting this data, I have to configure the system with two NIC's and a switch that will kill one connection before making the other connection.
>
> My question is: can I change the active LAN connections on the fly so that when one net is connected that NIC is active and then when the other net is active the other NIC is? They will be on two different NIC's (different speeds also). I was thinking it could be done with a script file that took lan1 down and lan2 up, or the other way around, depending.
>
> I know I will lose DNS when the campus net is down, but the hosts on the isolated LAN Are small in number and should not change address so /etc/hosts is fine for that.

Question #2:

I am looking at purchasing a new server to replace the J282/2 workstation I have been using as a server for a number of years. Does anyone know, while I am waiting on the answer from the HP sales rep, if starbase is supported (or even if it just runs) on a rp5405 box running 11.11? I use starbase to generate data plots and various other graphics and if it's not supported I'll have to start re-writing or buy another workstation to be used as a server.

> Am I out of my mind, again? Thanks is advance for any answers.
