envd running on the HP machines should log to syslog that there are severe
and critical temperature levels ( at least in the server case/CPU). We had
a similar problem, and caught it because the HP machines in the room with
the failed AC were screaming about temperatures. Forward your syslogs
somewhere, get a syslog monitor like swatch, and kick off some alert emails
when you see the text strings:

Zzz x 12:11:57 fubar /usr/sbin/envd[1303]: ***** OVERTEMP_CRIT WARNING *****
Zzz x 12:11:57 fubar /usr/sbin/envd[1303]: Temperature exceeded the normal
operation threshold. Correct the over-temperature condition.

Subject: [HPADM] Temperature Problem - Sort of Off-Topic

Hello!

We had a problem in our Server Room where the Air Conditioner had
shutdown. 3 of our HP's had shutdown due to the temperature. Our usual
safe guards did not work on this occasion. One of them was a temperature
sensor that is connected to a APC UPS, and the PowerChute software pages
if it goes above a threshold.

I am wondering what type of solutions that are being used out
there. As we are a University, the budget for a solution is pretty low.

       Thanks in advance.

Regards,

Emil
