Hi Daniel!

To figure out which shares you have available for the Windows users simply
do Start and Run from XP.

The command you type in would be \\CIFS-server where your CIFS-server would
be the hostname
of your UNIX server.

If authentication works for the windows user he should see a window with all
the shares the user
has access to.

To map network drives on XP, just use "map a network drive" from XP, and use
\\CIFS-server\share
when you specify the folder.

Hello!
There is a config tool called swat that can be launced from a web browser.
If you do man swat on the CIFS server it will tell you the steps to perform
to be able to run the swat interface. The most important change to be aware
of
is that you need to add swat 901/tcp in the services file, and you also need
to
add an entry in inetd.conf. It is all explain in the man page.
The most tricky part of setting up the CIFS server is to make the
authentication work.
If you are doing the authentication on the UNIX server is is quite simple.
You just need
the users defined on the UNIX server, and configure CIFS with user level
authentication
If you use
a Windows server as PDC, you need to add the users that should have the
shares available
as users on the UNIX server too. They do not need to be able to log in,
just the user
defined. The Windows PDC server is a little sensitive in which sequence you
do things if
you want a CIFS server to have a member account on the PDC. The CIFS server
needs to be
configured with domain authentication to enable this functionality.
This Microsoft article also offers some information about a few parameters
to be aware of:
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;250263
The config file is saved under /etc/opt/samba and it's called smb.conf. You
can edit this files
and most changes takes effect without restarting the samba daemons.
If you have any experience with Samba, that will help you a lot since CIFS
is basically HP's Samba
implementation. There should be some Samba documentation on the internet
that also could be of some
help.
Hope this helps a little!

	All,
I am trying to setup CIFS/9000 server for filesystem
mounting on various Window machines (2000, XP, and NT), using the current
package B8725AA from the HP doc site. How do I go about setting the server
up using the CIFS server for authetication only for the Windows clients to
mount the filesystem from the CIFS server? I have never used this product
before, so any help would be appreciated.
	Thanks in advance,
	Dan
