[HPADM] FW: Solid State Disks...

Hi,

We have an OLTP type application, running the Informix database, in general
hitting 2K pages randomly across our database. We are getting into a
situation where we need more performance on our disk systems (currently
VA7410s). We do not need large amounts of disk (in general 50GB would be
more than adequate), we use the VA7410 for the caching and the spindles. We
are looking for something in a similar price range (or cheaper!) to the
VA7410 (30 x 36GB disks @ 15K rpm).

We are looking at alternative options, one of which is to use Solid State
disks. We are currently looking at the RamSan from TMS, and was wondering
if anyone had any comments (both positive and negative) on either this
particular company, or in general on other Solid State disks/suppliers.

Alternatively, any suggestions on alternate options would be appreciated.

We have had talks with HP about improving performance on the VA7410s, but we
have pretty much tuned them to death now.

As usual, I will summarise.

Cheers,

Vince.
