The swmodify command gives an error, with no removal of any file:

# swmodify -x patch_commit=true '*.*'

         corrupt state and is not available for selection. Corrupt
         software can be removed with the swremove command, or replaced
         with the swcopy command.

How to recover from this "corrupt state" ? I don't know how to identify the software in this state.

I forgot to mention the origin of the given "swmodify" command, that is
http://www.hp.com/products1/unix/operating/infolibrary/whitepapers/building_a_bastion_host.pdf
On another HP 9000, this command already recovered more than 300 Mb of disk space.

To identify the "state" of the software depots, this command line works:
# swlist -l fileset -a state
an example output line is
PHSS_22574.KERN-RUN configured

After removing the single fileset in a corrupt state (it was sudo) I recovered almost 400 Mb of disk space.
