hi admins,
I decided to install "pico" because I do not like to compile
"emacs". so I downloaded a pine 4.44 depot from hpux.asknet.de
did a swcopy and "extracted" the pine-binary.
my users only do not like to work with "vi" so they accept this
alternate solution

From my experiences depot files aren't always the best thing.
Sometimes they haven't been compiled with the right options you need
for your application.
I would try compiling all the necessary programs from the source files.
And don't forget to use gmake for gnu software.
It seems like it's going to be a lot of work, though, with all the
programs and libraries emacs requires. :^(

If the 11.0 emacs tries to load anything from those 11.20 packages (I
do not know that it would, but if it did), it will be trying to load
an IPF libreary into a PA (emulated) executable. That is not doable.
It has to be either all PA-RISC, or all IPF in an application (well,
in a process).
