[HPADM] How to "clone" HP 9000 382 controller

Hi All,
Sorry if this one is on the fringes, but hopefully someone can point me in
the right direction.

The anodize & plating line in our manufacturing plant has an HP 9000/382
controller connected to it (I assume it's running some sort of real-time O/S
controlling the cranes that move parts from tank to tank). I've been asked
to come up with a disaster response plan if/when the unit fails. My first
thought was to go out on the used market and pick up a spare controller and
somehow copy the existing hard drive onto the spare box so that in the event
of failure we could just swap controllers. Trouble is, the company has
downsized everyone who ever knew anything about the unit, and I'm having
trouble trying to even find the login username/password - let alone anything
else useful!

Anyone with 300 series experience want to take a shot at instructing me how
to do this? I'll even consider contracting in some help if you just want to
point me at the right resources...

TIA & will summarize...
