[HPADM] SUMMARY: VG disk "move" to an existing VG

Thx to those who responded....Leon Kazakin, Tom Myers and Alan Riggs, as
well as an old friend Dave Craska.
My "fears" are realized... This "import" cannot be accomplished as
hoped. Alan mentioned it may
be possible to fake the system by overlaying the VG info, but very risky
obviously.... Tom also mentioned to be
aware of the max_pe and max_pv settings for the vg to be extended.
But in summary, I'll have to copy off the data
and restore it.

Thx again,
Dave Antoch

Admins,

Is it possible to move an existing disk (vg01), into another existing VG
(vg02), while maintaining the data and LV's on it?

I thought I could simply vgexport vg01 (actually a Nike RAID LUN) ,
then vgimport it into an existing vg02 (the other LUN in the Nike).
They are 2 seperate VG's currently, and I want to put them in the same VG
so I can extend the full LV/filesystem on the first, to use the
remaining space on the second LUN. However, vgimport wont let me
import into an existing VG. I am NOT using PVG's (physical vol
grps), but I noticed that vgextend has a -g option that can add the disk
into an existing PVG.

Can I do this without having to restore the data from tape (i.e like
vgimport could by preserving the LV's)?

Thx,
Dave
